20141105_aThe Melbourne Cup may be over, but I still have thoroughbred horses on my mind thanks to this amazing graffiti piece that appeared in a neighborhood bus-stop last week.

I noticed the piece while I was driving to work early one morning, and only narrowly avoided causing an accident after I craned my neck back around to get a proper look at the piece as I drove past. I’m something of an aficionado of graffiti and street art, and I love to see new pieces like this popping up around Canberra and more specifically, my neighborhood of Belconnen.

20141105_bI got the Boyfriend to pull into a side street this afternoon so that we could run back and take my daily outfit shots with the thoroughbred artwork. Today I wore:

Brooklyn bamboo sunglasses in blue and mirrored silver – Bambooz
Navy pinstriped wool blazer – Rembrandt Sartorial, thrifted
Orange, blue and white plaid cotton button-down shirt – Trenery
Navy silk necktie with woven shield motif – vintage Polo Ralph Lauren, from Etsy
Gold-tone and alligator leather tie clip – vintage, from Etsy
Black leather belt – repurposed from wedding outfit
Royal blue slim cut cotton chinos – ASOS
Blue leather boots with buckle detail – G-Star
20141105_cThe piece is not, as I originally believed, a marker-drawing of two thoroughbred horses, but it is actually an incredibly detailed sticker which had to have been peeled off a backing of some sort and stuck to the painted concrete wall of the bus-stop. It is really an amazing job, and very well executed indeed. The fragility of the media reminds me of lace, but also of the iron lace used in Victorian home designs. There was not artists name either, but I really love this piece.
