Cytrus Belvedere vodka, Monin rose syrup, muddled cucumber, Aperol and pink grapefruit juice – The Rosie is the perfect tipple to toast to love this Valentine’s Day only, at Hyatt Hotel Canberra
Valentine’s Day is one of those occasions in Australia that rolls around with little to no fanfare until a week or two before the event, making it easy to forget to plan for. Unlike Christmas and Easter, Valentine’s Day is largely ignored by Australians, leading to a lot of last-minute bookings at restaurants and rushed purchases of un-inventive (although begrudgingly beautiful) red roses.
The truth is that it is less than 24 hours until Valentine’s day and I know across Canberra there are a number of you sitting there needing to make some sort of plans, but not knowing where you can turn at this last minute. Maybe you want a romantic evening to spend with a new beau, or maybe you and your partner want to actually do something this year rather than your standard take away and Netflix? Maybe you’re single like me, but you still want to do something to celebrate?
Thankfully, Hyatt Hotel Canberra are offering two unique ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year, as well as a signature cocktail designed for the day. (more…)
Tonight I had the privilege of attending the Canberra Centre celebration of Christmas, Magical. The event was an opportunity to see the amazing typographic artwork of Gemma O’Brien, commissioned by the Canberra Centre to help ring in the festive season and get everyone in the mood for #thatchristmasfeeling
Emceed by the lovely Sarah Kelly, the event provided guests with a selection of delicious canapes and bubbling champagne in the ground-floor foyer of the Canberra Centre, with a magical mood set by the talented harpist filling the space with angel-soft sounds. As guests took in the atmosphere, Gemma was applying the finishing touches her mural on the wall of the Canberra Centre – a colossal undertaking to paint the word Magical in shades of gold and white. As you can see above, O’Brien hand-painted the beautiful piece directly onto the wall with astounding grace. (more…)
This fantastic event kick-started the series, which will be held every Thursday until the end of the year. Lucky’s Speakeasy and The Barber Shop at QT Canberra have joined forces to bring a brilliant line-up of grooming, style and lifestyle help for Canberra’s gentlemen. There’ll be ‘late night touch ups’ available until 9:30pm in The Barber Shop, men’s tailoring whilst drinking an old fashioned in Lucky’s Speakeasy, a How to Dress Like James Bond night and other nights that focus on Summer Accessories, Summer Swimwear and Boys Toys.
Last Wednesday evening I did something that I had been hoping to do for a long time, and attended a Moxom & Whitney Flower School evening in their gorgeous storefront in the Ori Building, Braddon.
For those of you not familiar with they name, Moxom & Whitney is Canberra’s most dynamic Florist by-far, and I have rapidly come to think of theirs as the only sensible place to purchase flowers in the ACT. Located in the heart of Braddon’s Lonsdale Street Traders precint in the heart of Canberra, Moxom & Whitney is a luxurious oasis of indulgence. Co-owned by Lou Moxom and Belinda Whitney, the duo deliver blooms with a unique, organic wholesomeness that is distinctly creative. As soon as I heard about their Flower School evenings I knew that it was something that I needed to do, and so I recently booked myself in for the Wednesday evening course. (more…)
It is a bit rare for menswear to get much of a look in here in Canberra, so when one of the most exciting contemporary voices in menswear happens to be stopping by the Canberra Centre to present a style-centric talk on all things menswear; you’d better believe that I am there!
Luc Wiesman is the founder and managing editor of D’Marge, an online magazine aimed at magnificent bastards all over Australia who are looking for a bit of an edge in their grooming and presentation without having to faff-about too much to get to the nitty-gritty.
Since launching in 2011 D’Marge has quickly grown to one of the largest menswear and lifestyle focused websites in Australia, with over 800,000 visits a month.
I was lucky enough to shoot Luc some questions around menswear and our fair city of Canberra, and his answers offer a fantastic insight into what we can expect from tomorrow evening’s presentation at the Canberra centre. (more…)
Last night I had the the great pleasure of attending a QT Canberra exclusive event to celebrate the launch their new Cocktail and Dinner menus; held at the QT Lounge, Capitol Bar & Grill, and Lucky’s Canberra. The evening was an opportunity to sample the fresh new menus from Capitol and Lucky’s, and to see just what the August updates would bring.
The QT Canberra team put on a hell of an evening for Canberra Media and Bloggers alike, showcasing new menu items and their already great service. We kicked things off with the Cocktail presentation in the gorgeous QT Canberra Lounge, located on the 15th floor of the hotel and ordinarily reserved for a very exclusive members list. The stunning panoramic views of Canberra are breathtaking and such an unexpected treat for someone who has lived here for the past ten years. The presentation was expertly handled by Jared Thibault, Beverage Manager for AHL Group and the mastermind behind the QT Canberra cocktail menu revamp. (more…)
