Menswear is obviously a consuming passion of mine, and despite being initially violently opposed to the idea of Instagram, I have come to be obsessed with the app as a sort of visual diary, and have found countless accounts across the globe who continue to inspire me day after day. There’s a wealth of reasons why I keep coming back to these same profiles, and I thought that it was high-time that I share with you some of the Instagramers who I turn to daily for that much needed dose of menswear inspiration, or to challenge my own tastes, or to remind myself that there will always be someone better dress than you. These 8 accounts are the menswear gurus who are currently rocking my world with the sartorial expertise and personal styles as different as you could imagine. Check them out, give them a follow, tell me what you think – I promise that there is something here for every man’s taste.
t.v.f.u.h – Jared t.v.f.u.h (the view from up here) is a Brisbane based menswear Instagram that features point of view images of Jared’s daily outfits. The photography is crisp and clear, the angle is engaging and personal, and the outfits are ceaselessly well executed.
The Solid Sartorialist – Charles A man after my own heart, Charles is inspiring to me in his dedication to showing that bigger guys have no excuse when it comes to the style stakes. As a chunky guy myself it’s a great kick in the pants to see him killing it on a daily basis, reminding me that my weight is not an excuse to be poorly dressed.
Tonight I had the privilege of attending the Canberra Centre celebration of Christmas, Magical. The event was an opportunity to see the amazing typographic artwork of Gemma O’Brien, commissioned by the Canberra Centre to help ring in the festive season and get everyone in the mood for #thatchristmasfeeling
Emceed by the lovely Sarah Kelly, the event provided guests with a selection of delicious canapes and bubbling champagne in the ground-floor foyer of the Canberra Centre, with a magical mood set by the talented harpist filling the space with angel-soft sounds. As guests took in the atmosphere, Gemma was applying the finishing touches her mural on the wall of the Canberra Centre – a colossal undertaking to paint the word Magical in shades of gold and white. As you can see above, O’Brien hand-painted the beautiful piece directly onto the wall with astounding grace. (more…)
This fantastic event kick-started the series, which will be held every Thursday until the end of the year. Lucky’s Speakeasy and The Barber Shop at QT Canberra have joined forces to bring a brilliant line-up of grooming, style and lifestyle help for Canberra’s gentlemen. There’ll be ‘late night touch ups’ available until 9:30pm in The Barber Shop, men’s tailoring whilst drinking an old fashioned in Lucky’s Speakeasy, a How to Dress Like James Bond night and other nights that focus on Summer Accessories, Summer Swimwear and Boys Toys.
We’re onto our second weekend of Spring already and this one promises to be a doozy! There is so much happening in and around Canberra, and it is a fantastic time to visit if you happen to be planning a jaunt to the Capital.
I thought that I would take this opportunity to share with you the three local events that I will be attending across Canberra this weekend, so that you can add them to your calendars if you haven’t already.
The Fashfest experience is not complete without a trip to the fantastic Day Five event, which is held the day after the last show.
This truly is the best opportunity for Canberrans to get up close and personal with the collections shown at Fashfest 2015, to see the clothes in person and to meet with the designers to discuss their work and maybe even make a purchase. It is also a brilliant opportunity to meet with the designers following Fashfest to congratulate them on their most recent work.
That is why it is a little disappointing, as someone who considers himself to be a bit of a supporter of Canberra’s growing Fashion scene, that the turn out from the public was so underwhelming this Sunday past. (more…)
Today I met up with Jiawa from Closet Voyage, and she kindly too my photo for the Hustle & Scout Twilight Fashion Markets Facebook page, to announce that I will be there on Saturday doing Style Scouting! I’m really thrilled to be able to take part in the event, and to see who will be there and wearing what. The past two Hustle and Scout events that I have been to have been absolutely phenomenal, and I am really looking forward to this new Spring session in a beautiful new home at Hangar 47 in Fairbairn.
I’m really excited to check out the new location this Saturday, especially with the promise of 2,000 free car parks, ATMs, and a magnificent view of the runway and lots of aircraft activity.
I did my best to channel something that my inner Style Scout would approve of for today’s daily outfit, and I’m wearing:
Navy and white gingham blazer – Larsen’s Store for Men, etsy Light blue oxford cloth button-down shirt – Polo Ralph Lauren, thrifted Navy silk necktie with palm tree motif – Austico Reg, thrifted Gold-tone tie clip – gift Black leather belt – Raphael Steffens Royal blue skinny-leg chinos – ASOS Blue leather boots with buckle detail – G-Star
There will be a total of 53 designers and collectors showcased at the market, including Fashfest alumni Corr Blimey, as well as an exciting line-up of fresh music talent. Visitors can also sample over 25 food and beverage stalls at The Forage food market, a roaming model performance, tiki bar and lounge, photo booth, and the AFL grand final will also be televised.
So, if you’re in Canberra this long weekend, make sure you get down to Hustle and Scout Market at Hangar #47, 8-10 Point Cook Ave, Fairbairn from 2-7 PM.
And if you see some guy stalking around taking photos, it’s probably me! So come over and introduce yourself, and you might just get Style Scouted!
I was out of the office all day today, but knowing I was going to be at a venue my work often uses for training exercises, and how cold that venue is, I opted for a daily outfit on the warmer side. The jacket I am wearing today actually came with matching running tights, and I was very tempted to wear them under my jeans for the sake of the extra warmth!
We’re experiencing some incredibly cold weather here in Canberra at the moment, and I’m finding that I am needing to wear a jacket almost the whole day through. As such, today I’m wearing: Navy polyester jacket with reflective and neon orange details – H&M Light blue Oxford button-down shirt – Polo Ralph Lauren, thrifted Navy polyester necktie with waratah motif – thrifted Gold-tone tie clip – gift Black leather belt – repurposed from wedding outfit Blades tapered jeans – G-Star, ebay Blue leather boots with buckle detail – G-Star
I was really lucky to get a ticket to attend a Blogging workshop with the inspiring Darren Rowse from Problogger, here in Canberra today. It was a fantastic way to spend the day, and I’ve come away from the experience feeling like I have a lot of homework to do, but also feeling really excited. I have a really great feeling about where I’m heading with the Blog, and I am so glad to have the opportunities that I have in order to explore my ideas.
