Canberra Centre #SS15 events

I’ve been very lucky to be invited to two of the Canberra Centre’s #SS15 style events, which are bringing a collective of style influencers to Canberra to share their thoughts and expertise in their collective fields.

These events are part of the #SS15 programme and have been held in conjunction with QT Canberra and Lucky’s Speakeasy. The events have been emceed by Steven Wright and Sarah Kelly, the Canberra Centre’s local fashion experts, and have thus far been truly fantastic events that I have left feeling inspired for the season ahead.

Guests of the events have been treated to a Grooming Station by QT Canberra’s Barber Shop, delicious catering from within the Canberra Centre, stunning cocktails from QT’s Lucky’s Speakeasy, and of course complimentary Canberra Centre style bags to take home.

Men’s Styling and Technology Workshop with Luc Weisman – D’Marge

It was an absolute pleasure to attend the “Men’s Style & Tech Workshop” with Luc Wiseman at the Canberra Centre. The workshop drew a fantastic crowd of Canberra’s fashion forward gentlemen, who gathered to learn from Weisman, founder of D’marge. Luc shared his thoughts on the Spring/Summer season’s menswear trends, grooming advice and gadgets for the modern man. The best thing about this presentation was the no-bullshit attitude that Luc possesses, and hearing about the development of D’Marge. I was also fortunate enough to be given two double passes to give away, and was so happy to meet my competition winners on the night. Some key notes of wisdom I took from the discussion with Luke were:

“I don’t have a style as such, I just try to buy well.”

“You don’t want a mortgage, you want fashion.”

“Be right or wrong, make a decision.”

“If you’re not wearing a pocket square with a suit/blazer; you need to take a hard look at yourself. THIS is a KFC napkin…”

Style Workshops with Tash Sefton and Elle Ferguson – They All Hate Us

For the second #SS15 style workshop, the lovely Tash Sefton and Elle Ferguson of They All Hate Us visited the Canberra Centre to share their top tips for a stylish season ahead, both off- and on-duty. I had a great time hearing from these beautiful, down-to-earth ladies, who shared the story of how they formed their influential partnership and the humble beginnings of their Blog to the powerhouse that it has become. The energy of these two was so refreshing and inspiring, and it was lovely to catch up with fellow bloggers Eileen, Jemma and Sophie as well. The girls had so much fantastic advice to share, but the key take-aways for me were:

“Tash and I still post for each other…”

“High/Low dressing is key. It’s not always scary high fashion. You can’t afford the high-end all the time!”

“The important thing is to shoot the products on us. Not too skinny, not too young, showing how anyone can wear it!”

“There’s no seasons any more, no time zones. Everything is now, now, now. We need to slow it down and assess what it means for us right now.”

So, what’s next on the #SS15 event’s list? Well, there’s two more events planned, and the next looks to be fantastic and to sell out quickly!
